The Diabetes Pantry

The Diabetes Pantry has been established by founder Helen Schifferle, a credentialed Diabetic Educator. The initiative was created for patients to compliment the clinical side of learning how to manage their diabetes on a daily basis.

It is not uncommon for patients with diabetes to feel overwhelmed with all the information available. This results in confusion and frustration when trying to create new healthy eating plans, while often fitting in with the growing family nutritional needs.

  • The supermarket tours are visual and interactive.
  • Assist with providing the best options on purchasing foods
  • Suited to both newly diagnosed diabetes and existing patients

The tour provides specific knowledge on which ingredients are best suited for your families favourite recipes while keeping these meal diabetes friendly. This includes knowledge on food label reading, portion control and the common question of what are carbohydrates and why are they important to my diabetes?

Helen compares recipes to store bought meals and encourages that cooking with a focus on diabetes can be easy to prepare and full of flavour.  Helen is a local and passionate credentialled diabetes educator who has a wealth of knowledge based on best practice guidelines. She believes in empowering individuals to take charge of their diabetes by providing practical and realistic skills.
